iPhone 5 VS Galaxy S3 – the Battle for Best
After a long wait, Apple has just launched the 6th-genration iPhone, that looks stunning and now getting attention all around the world, the sixth incarnation of the original iPhone, has to fight with Android devices and other mobile plate forms, but mostly people seems to compare Apple devices with Samsung devices and almost of you well about flagship smartphones of both companies, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 5, both are high-end smartphones of this age.
In recent times Apple claimed that Galaxy S3 is coping the iPhone, might be Apple did this to make a way for the iPhone 5 launch because the Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S3 has become a most popular smartphone.
Approximately before four months, Korean company showed off the Galaxy S3 and just within four months, I hasn’t saw any negative review about the Korean smartphone, recently a report came that the Samsung sold 20 million units worldwide that is really a biggest success but will iPhone5 break this record? To get the answer, the best way to judge which tech giant is better is comparison, that’s why, here at Android Egis, I’m going to compare both devices, it will show which one is better, Apple should now do better. However Apple has already sold 30 million units of previous iPhone in the first three months when it launched. Experts seems to expect that the new iPhone would make a best record but I can’t say anything about that, might I’m saying that because I prefer Galaxy S3. However the time will tell, iPhone can make a biggest selling record or not.
Of course, Samsung vs Apple rivalry is one of the best example that can come up with. Both companies make some of best smartphones you can find. I have divided the whole comparison, Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5, into different segments because it’s easier to understand and shows closer detail.
Design & Display – The First Thing People See
Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with an eye-catching design, very thin and attention getting but iPhone 5 looks beautiful tool. The Galaxy S3 shines with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display that features 1280 x 720 pixel resolution along with 302 PPI for each inch, Samsung launched the phone with a best 720p (16:9 aspect ratio) around the world that vibrant colors, but it’s bit off when you compare with any other regular LCD displays.
The competitor, iPhone 5 is a victorious smartphone in a longer display, previous iPhone versions were came with same size, 3.5-inch display but the new iPhone 5 shines with a 4-inch display but it’s as wide as iPhone 4S, however it runs 1136 x 640 resolution along with 326 PPI ratio, unfortunately, it’s stay away from the compatibility with current apps, apps that are not especially for the iPhone 5 would give 86 black pixels at the top as well as at the bottom. The visual elements are already exist in iPhone can’t grow on new 6th generation iPhone, however the canvas would be taller.
The third-generation Galaxy S smartphone comes with 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, its weighs is 133 grams and on the other hand the iPhone 5 features 123.8 x 58.5 x 7.6 mm and its weighs 112 grams. People expected a bit less wide iPhone 5, however Apple gave us a surprise with a new slim design and aluminum unibody.
Winner: it’s depend on your choice, if you like to have a device having 4.8-inch featuring 720p screen with better vivid colors, the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be best for you but if you love a device having bit slim size and you keep it on your pocket, the iPhone is designed just for you, get it.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has different processor in different carrier, the international Galaxy S3 variant shines the Exynos 4412 Quad SoC, 1.4 quad-core A9 processor and a Mali 400MP GPU on other variants, Samsung use LTE supportable Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 SoC, 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU and an Adreno 220 GPU on US variants, when compare them via benchmark, it shows that the international version is faster than S4 counterpart. The competitor, iPhone 5 has A6 SoC that is two time faster than A5 but it’s not a quad-core, but as I said it’s two time faster than the 4S. Here, on this point, the international Galaxy S3 is bit better but US Qualcomm S4 Galaxy S3 can’t fight with Apple latest creation, does it show tie result?
Almost all Android lovers know well about Galaxy S3 LTE support but now new iPhone 5 has joint the list of LTE-enabled smartphones, it support LTE, so don’t compare this thing, if you like LTE compatible device, both support LTE, now you should take a look on other things you want, so let’s go ahead.
Both smartphones shines with the 8 megapixel camera and you can use any of them for photography as the result is similar but here I’d like to criticize Apple, according to late release, it should improve the camera. If you take a look at front-facing cameras, the Galaxy S3 uses a 2MP camera, on the other hand iPhone features a front camera having the ability to record 720p video.
Both smartphones are available in three models, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models but Galaxy S3 beats Apple iPhone 5 using the microSD card, you have to option to use a SD card to increase the storage space of Galaxy S3 but not on iPhone 5.
Winner: Galaxy S3 is winner in this round due to SD card support.
Operating System and Software Apps
Both companies use different operating system, the Galaxy S3 runs Google’s Android mobile operating system, currently it runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich but also features TouchWiz UI, but, badly, the operating system isn’t latest, about a month ago, Google released the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, however it has been confirmed that Galaxy S3 will receive Jelly Bean update next month in October. So there’s nothing to blow your mind. On the other hand, the Apple iPhone runs latest Apple operating system iOS 6 that present an incremental step forward but a locked garden, iPhone users need to access to a butt-load of properly optimized apps, here something is for you that force you to do as far as customization goes.
Since both companies use different operating system, there are different app store them, Android users use Google Play store to download Apps and iOS users use Apple App Store for more apps, a lot of apps are available on both stores.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3 is winner because the Android is best operating around the world, the chains attached to the locked down iOS apps may disturb you, for latest operating system version, Android users can use different ways to upgrade their devices with latest Android versions such as custom ROMs.
Conclusion – Which one is better?
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is available for $600 around the world, on the other the iPhone 5 would be available for contract on US, the 16GB model costs $199, the 32GB model costs $299 and the last 64GB model costs $399, all are with two year contract. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is bigger than the iPhone 5, a bigger display is good for almost everyone, but iPhone 5 has the advantage of a better optimized ecosystem, any smartphone can’t beat iPhone if you compare just LTE, specs are also impressive.
The whole comparison is over now, it’s your turn, which one is better and for which reason is best for you? Do let us know about your thoughts in below comment section.
