AOSP-Based Android 4.1 Jelly Bean For Verizon Galaxy Nexus [How-To]

In recent times Google released the AOSP source code for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a stock AOSP Android 4.1 Jelly Bean custom ROM is available for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. It comes with amazing features and works fine so it’s worthy to try. It’s pre-rooted custom ROM, thanks to senior XDA developer member mmuzzy.

You can install it via ClockworkMod recovery, keep in mind that your device’s bootloader also should be unlocked, use this guide to unlock bootloader and install recovery here, you can also use toolkit to unlock bootloader and install recovery. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK] to PC.

Step #2: Download Google Apps to your PC.

Step #3: Copy both downloaded files to your device.

Step #4: Turn the device off.

Step #5: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down power, volume up and volume down buttons until screen turns on, first it will take you to fastboot mode, there using volume keys and power key select recovery.

Step #6: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #7: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #8: Select Install  and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete, then also install Google apps in the same manner.

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”

    Great post. That’s a really old GAPPs you’re linking. I’d recommend one of the newer ones that helps with navigation, Google Now, and Gallery issues in JB http://goo.im/gapps/ . -Mike
