Cyanogenmod 9 ROM for Your Kindle Fire [How-To]

New Ice Cream Sandwich custom ROM for Kindle Fire called “ENERGY”, I would like to say it based on  Cyanogenmod 9 (CM9), thanks to XDA developer “NRGZ28” for this effort, it still under development so you can expect some bugs such as HW UI Acceleration, 720p and HD video in general and bluetooth (doh!) not working, however  if you want to taste Ice Cream Sandwich on your Kindle Fire, install this custom ROM, here’s a step by step guide to install this custom ROM.

Keep in mind that device must be rooted and TWRP recovery should be installed on device, its battery should be charged. Please make a backup of your device data because the below procedure will wipe all data, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the energy 3.6.2012.kindle.fire.cm9.ics.zip to your PC.

Step #2: Connect your Kindle Fire to the computer via USB Cable and copy the energy 3.6.2012.kindle.fire.cm9.ics.zip file to the root directory of your SD card.

Step #3: Disconnect device from PC and Turn it off.

Step #4: Reboot into recovery, To do this, turn off the phone, then power it on. When the yellow triangle appears, press and hold the power button until the light turns orange and then release.

Step #5: Once you’re in recovery, do a full wipe: select the wipe> Factory Reset.

Step #6: Go back to the main menu and select Install> then select the energy 3.6.2012.kindle.fire.cm9.ics.zip to start flashing the Energy ROM (CM9). Once this installation finished, go back and select reboot> system to reboot your device. That’s it enjoy!
