Download and Install Android 4.2.1 Update for Nexus 4 – Guide


Just a few weeks ago Google launched the new LG Nexus 4 and it comes with latest Android 4.2 version, but the Android 4.2 had just 11 months in the calendar app, there was no December, however Google is now rolling out a new Android 4.2.1 OTA update for the Nexus 4 that fix December bug.

So those of you have got their new glittery piece of LG Nexus 4, pick up your new smartphone, make sure the battery is charged, go to Setting>About Phone, there check for the Android 4.2.1 OTA update notification from System updates. However you can also install the OTA update manually.

Here’s step-by-step guide to learn how to install Android 4.2.1 OTA Update on Nexus 4 manually. Make sure you’re using a Windows PC with Android ADB installed, you can follow our this handy guide to install Android ADB on your PC.

Instructions

Step #1: Download Android 4.2.1 OTA Update for Nexus 4 from here to your PC.

Step #2: Turn off your Nexus 4.

Step #3: Reboot your Nexus 4 by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons, when fastboot menu and “start” appear on the screen, press the volume up button to highlight recovery option and then press power button to enter in recovery mode. When Android logo with red exclamation appear, press the volume up and power button at a time to open up a menu, there select “apply update from adb”.

Step #4: Now plug your Nexus 4 to PC using a USB cable.

Step #5: Open up the command prompt that you can find  at start menu>programs>accessories. Then using command prompt, navigate to the folder where you’ve downloaded above update zip file, if you’re using Windows 7 or above, you can open the command prompt directly from the folder, to do so open the folder, there press right click on mouse while holding down shift button on keyboard, then select “open command prompt here”.

Step #6: Enter following command on command prompt to install the update:

adb sideload 625f5f7c6524.signed-occam-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.625f5f7c.zip

The above will show a progress bar on your Nexus 4, once it done, it will start the installation of update. Once the installation is done, your phone will reboot itself.

Step #7: Unplug phone from PC.

That’s it, you’re done, the Android 4.2.1 OTA update is now installed on your Nexus 4, enjoy!
