Download and Install Android 4.2 Update for Galaxy Nexus [Official OTA Firmware]
As we posted that Google is rolling out the Android 4.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus through OTA, it’s currently available for Takju variant. According to the report, all Galaxy Nexus users hasn’t received the Android 4.2 OTA update notification, might be that’s the reason Google has posted the Android 4.2 OTA update for Galaxy Nexus for manual installation. The newer Android 4.2 version comes with impressive features such as the gesture typing, photo sphere for panorama mode, better Google Now functions, quick setting option in status bar and more.
Those of you haven’t received the OTA notification, can install the update manually and here’s a step-by-step guide to learn how to install official Android 4.2 firmware update on Galaxy Nexus manually. Make sure your Galaxy Nexus is running Android 4.1.2 JZO54K firmware, you can check the device detail from Setting>About Device.
If the ClockworkMod recovery or TWRP recovery is installed on your Galaxy Nexus (Note: your phone must not be rooted), follow this guide to install OTA Android 4.2 update for Galaxy Nexus.
Step #1: Download the Android 4.2 OTA update for Galaxy Nexus from here (File name: e587de13bf8a.signed-takju-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.e587de13.zip).
Step #2: Transfer the downloaded file to your Galaxy Nexus.
Step #3: Turn the device off and reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons.
Step #4: Select “Install” and locate the downloaded .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.
Step #5: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”

Step #1: Make sure you’re using Windows PC with USB drivers installed.
Step #2: Download the Android 4.2 OTA update (e587de13bf8a.signed-takju-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.e587de13.zip) and Fastboot Package (fastboot.zip) to your PC.
Step #3: Unzip the downloaded fastboot.zip file into C:\, you’ll get a fastboot folder having four files. Then copy the update file to fastboot folder.
Step #4: Turn your phone off.
Step #5: Reboot your phone into recovery mode, to do so reboot phone by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons, you’ll enter in fastboot mode, there use volume keys to navigate and power button to select. You need to select recovery option to enter in recovery mode.
Step #6: Here hold down the power button first, then press volume up button, it will open up the recovery menu, then select “apply update from adb”.
Step #7: Plug your phone to PC, it may ask for drivers installation, let them install.
Step #8: Open the command prompt, you can find it from start menu>programs>accessories.
Step #9: Enter following command, it will take you to fastboot folder:
cd c:\ fastboot
Step #10: Enter following command, it will deliver your Galaxy Nexus ID number, if it delivers, your phone is connected to PC properly. Otherwise make sure device drivers are installed properly.
Step #11: Enter the following command to install the downloaded Android 4.2 OTA update .zip file, it will show up a sending side load message, after that it will start the installation:
adb sideload e587de13bf8a.signed-takju-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.e587de13.zip
Step #12: Once the installation is done, on your phone select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.
