Download and Install Official Android 4.2 Update for Galaxy Nexus (Yakju)


Google already has released the Android 4.2 update to Yakju Galaxy Nexus through OTA but some users have reported that they didn’t receive the OTA notification, that’s why Android Police has made an OTA Android 4.2 update .zip file available for manual installation, here’s guide to learn how to install Android 4.2 OTA update on Galaxy Nexus manually, do keep in mind that it’s just for yakju Galaxy Nexus variant that is international GSM and is not from the Google Play store.

Make sure you’re using Windows PC with Android ADB installed, you can follow our this guide to install Android ADB on PC. Just for safety you need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc, sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps. Your Galaxy Nexus must be on JZO54K build, you can check your phone detail from Setting>About Phone.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the Android 4.2 OTA Yakju Build JOP40C to your PC.

Step #2: Turn your Galaxy Nexus off.

Step #3: Reboot your Galaxy Nexus into recovery mode, to do so reboot phone by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons, when you see fastboot menu, press volume up button to highlight recovery option to select it with power button, when you see Android logo with red exclamation icon, press both volume up and power button at a time to open a up a menu, then select “apply update from ADB”.

Step #4: Plug your Galaxy Nexus to PC using a USB cable.

Step #5: Open the command prompt and navigate to the folder where you’ve downloaded above OTA .zip file, if you’re using Windows 7 or above, you can open the command prompt directly from the folder, to do so open the folder, there press right click on mouse while holding down shift button on keyboard, then select open command window here.

Step #6: Enter following command to start the installation on command prompt:

adb sideload fdf06e8d71c7.signed-yakju-JOP40C-from-JZO54K.fdf06e8d.zip

Step #7: Once the installation is done, your phone will reboot automatically. Then unplug the phone from PC.

Enjoy! Your Galaxy Nexus is now running Android 4.2 latest Android version.
