Download and Install Official ClockworkMod Recovery for Nexus 4 – Guide
In recent times the Google Nexus 4 received ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery unofficially but it’s not fully stable and has a few bugs. However Koush (the guy who developed ClockworkMod recovery) has just released the ClockworkMod recovery for Nexus 4 officially and it’s fully working, now you can easily install custom ROMs, MODs, tweaks and other .zip files. CWM recovery lets you to make a backup of your Nexus 4 and wipe the data when you need.
Koush has released both ClockworkMod version – touch CWM and non-touch CWM. In non-touch Clockworkmod recovery, you need to use physical keys to navigate and select menus, on the other hand, the touch Clockworkmod recovery lets you to use the touch controls to use and navigate menus.

Step #1: Download the one ClockworkMod recovery version:
- Touch ClockworkMod Recovery for Nexus 4 (recovery-clockwork-touch-18.104.22.168-mako.img)
- Non-touch ClockworkMod recovery for Nexus 4 (recovery-clockwork-22.214.171.124-mako.img)
Step #2: Download the Fastboot package (fastboot.zip) and unzip the fastboot.zip file into C:\, it will extract a fastboot folder having four files, then copy the .img file that you downloaded in previous step to fastboot folder too.
Step #3: Turn your Nexus 4 off.
Step #4: Reboot your Nexus 4 into fastboot mode, to do so reboot the phone by holding volume down and power buttons until screen turns with “Start” message.
Step #5: Plug your Nexus 4 to PC using USB cable, the computer may ask for drivers installation, allow installation.
Step #6: Open up command prompt, you can find it under Start menu>programs>accessories. If you’re using Windows 8, right-click on left corner of task bar.
Step #7: Enter following command on command prompt to navigate to fastboot folder:
Step #8: Enter following command to make sure your phone is connected to PC properly, if it shows serial number, your phone is connected.
Step #9: Enter following command to install CWM recovery:
If you want to install touch CWM recovery enter this command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-126.96.36.199-mako.img
If you want to install non-touch CWM recovery:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-188.8.131.52-mako.img
Once the installation is done, you’ll get a message “finished/OKAY”.
Step #10: Enter following command o reboot phone:
That’s it, the ClockworkMod recovery is now installed on your phone. When you need to use CWM, turn your phone off and reboot it by holding down volume down and power buttons, it will take you to bootloader mode, there select recovery option to enter in recovery mode, enjoy!
