Flash Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S [How-To]
Samsung Galaxy S is one of most popular Android device but it just received the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update and Samsung has announced that it won’t receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update but it’s only possible to run the Ice Cream Sandwich but also the latest version Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Thanks to XDA developer mkalter, the Jelly Bean ROM is available for the Galaxy S. The ROM is in development stage yet but many features are working fine such as Touchscreen, GPU, Softkeys/Hardkeys, Butter, ADB, USB, Internal/External SD, Camera and more, however it has many bugs too and the developer will surely iron out the bugs, the ROM isn’t ready for daily use.
But if you really want to taste the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, here’s guide to install but first keep in mind that the ROM is just for Samsung Galaxy S model number GT-I9000, so please don’t try it on any other model, it may damage the device. You can check the device detail from Setting>About Phone.
Make sure that your device is on XXJW4 firmware and rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed, you can follow this guide to install XXJW4 firmware and root and install ClockworkMod recovery on the device on this firmware with this guide. Charge the device battery and make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Step #1: Download Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM from here [XDA Link]
Step #2: Plug the device to PC using USB cable.
Step #3: Transfer the downloaded file to SD card of device.
Step #4: Disconnect the device from PC.
Step #5: Turn the device off.
Step #6: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down Volume Down + Home + Power buttons until the screen turns on in recovery (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).
Step #7: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.
Step #8: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen.
Step #9: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.
Step #10: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
