Galaxy Note 2 Gets OTA XXALJ3 firmware update in India – installation guide

Samsung is rolling out an OTA firmware update for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in India, the firmware version is N7100XXALJ3, the update comes with updated system apps like the updated Samsung keyboard with Swype ability. So if you own a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and live in India, pick up your Galaxy Note 2, go to Setting and check for OTA notification to upgrade your Galaxy Note 2 with N7100XXALJ3 firmware.

However if you can’t get OTA notification or you’re not Indian, you can install the XXALI3 firmware manually on it, the below guide will walk you through how to install the N7100XXALJ3 firmware on Galaxy Note 2 manually.

Make sure you’re using Windows PC and Galaxy Note 2 USB drivers are installed on it, you can download the 32 bit (x86) Windows drivers from here and 64-bit (x64) Windows from here. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Instructions

Step #1: Download N7100XXALJ3firmware (N7100XXALJ3_N7100ODDALJ2_INU.zip) to your PC from here or here.

Step #2: Download the Odin3_v3.04.zip to your computer.

Step #3: Unzip both .zip files into a folder.

Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do so reboot device by holding down volume down, home and power buttons until a warning screen show up, the press the volume down button to enter download mode.

Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate N7100XXALJ3_N7100ODDALJ2_N7100DDALJ1_HOME.tar.md5 from the folder where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.

Step #10: If your device reboot into normal mode, you’re done, enjoy! But if you device gets stuck at boot screen, you need to perform wipe, to do so, turn off device, then reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons. In recovery mode, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Once it done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
