How To Install ClockworkMod Recovery for Xperia Z – Guide
The ClockworkMod recovery is finally available for the Sony Xperia Z, it’s very easy to install zip files containing custom ROMs, MODs and tweaks on Xpeira Z with ClockworkMod recovery (CWM) as well as you can perform Android backups and wipe, the ClockworkMod recovery is one of most popular custom recovery with impressive features that you can use to apply hacks over your Xperia Z, it offers a simple interface to use all features with no trouble.
This guide shows you how to install ClockworkMod recovery for Sony Xperia Z. It’s important t note that OTA update may cause issues with a custom recovery as it needs unlocked bootloader. You may unlock the bootloader of Xperia Z here. Your Xperia Z must be on 10.1.A.1.350 firmware/build number, you may check your firmware detail from Setting>About Phone.
Use a Windows PC with ADB and fastboot drivers installed, you can install Android ADB drivers here and you can download fastboot drivers here. To install drivers, unzip the driver file and copy the android_winusb.inf folder that you god with zip file into extras » google » usb_driver folder where Android ADB is located (it may ask to replace the file, let it replace).

Step #2: Place the download .img file to Android SDK>platform-tools folder.
Step #3: Turn your Xperia Z phone off.
Step #4: Connect phone to PC in fastboot mode, to do so plug your phone to PC while holding down the volume up button on phone. If driver installation window pop ups, locate them from Android SDK>extras>google>usb_driver folder, there select android_winusb.inf file. To locate file, select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers”, then “Browse my computer for driver software and then “Have Disk”.
Step #5: Open up command prompt and navigate to Android SDK>platform-tools folder, if you’re using Windows 7 or above, you can open the command prompt directly from the folder, to do so open platform-tools folder, there right click on any empty area while holding down the shift button on keyboard and select “open command window here”.
Step #6: Enter the following command in command prompt, if generates any value like 0.3 or 0.5, you phone is connected with PC properly, if it doesn’t generate any value, make sure phone drivers are installed on PC:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
Step #7: Issue the following command on command prompt (replace the name with name of file you downloaded in first step:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce flash boot “name”.img
Step #8: Once the installation is done, issue following command to reboot phone:
Step #9: Unplug phone from PC.
That’s it, you’re done, the ClockworkMod recovery is now installed on your phone, enjoy! Be sure to try CWM recovery mode, to do so turn off phone, then turn it back when you see LED light, start pressing the volume up button until you enter in recovery mode. In recovery mode, use volume keys to navigate and power button to select.
