How To Install Philz Touch Recovery for Galaxy S4 I9500

Whenever we think about a custom recovery to load custom ROMs on Android smartphones, the ClockworkMod recovery and TWRP recovery are names that can come in mind first, I know both are great, however if you want to upgrade yourself with something different, you should call to Philz Touch Recovery at this time that you can try here on your Galaxy S4 I9500 (Philz Advanced Touch CWM recovery), thanks to recognized XDA developer Phil3759.

As the name shows you that Philz Touch is a ClockworkMod-based custom recovery but includes more advanced features than original one, main features of CWM are same such as option to install zip files, perform nandroid backups and wipe. It will give you a full full touch interface configurable GUI even it support for customization interface parameters, Philz Touch recovery for Galaxy S4 can make you happy with a built-in AROMA file manager to browse files, multi-zip installation functionality, and more even you are able to make a custom ROM based on the ROM that is installed on your GS4.

However do note that this Galaxy S4 Philz Touch recovery edition is still under development, so you may face bugs or find missing feature.

This guide shows you how to install Philz Touch Recovery for Galaxy S4 I9500 (Exynos 5 1.6GHz octa-core processor variant). Ensure you own a Windows PC with phone driver installed, you can download drivers from here, if you don’t have drivers, Odin3 may not detect your smartphone.

DISCLAIMER: Please proceed the below guide at your own risk, Android Egis will not be held responsible if your device lost data or gets damaged following this guide.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of Philz Touch Recovery for Galaxy S4 from here (download .tar.md5 file) and Odin3 v3.04 from here.

Step #2: Unzip the downloaded Odin3_v3.04.zip file into a folder and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into download mode, to do this, reboot phone by holding down volume down, home and power buttons.

Step #5: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #6: Click on PDA Button and locate the tar.md5 file that you downloaded in first step (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #7: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again).

Step #8: Unplug the phone from PC.

That’s it, the Philz Touch recovery is now installed on your GS4 I9500, if you experience any error, leave a comment.
