How To Install TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S4 I9505
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes in two different variants, GT-I9500 and GT-I9505, the Galaxy S4 I9500 is packed with a 1.6GHz octa-core processor while the Galaxy S4 I9505 shines with Snapdragon 1.9GHz quad-core processor, recently a senior XDA developer emwno ported the TWRP recovery to Galaxy S4 I9500 and now he has ported the same for Galaxy S4 I9505.
The TWRP recovery is one of most popular custom recovery around the world because TeamWin has packed TWRP with various unique features that are not available for other recoveries like onscreen keyboard to name and rename backups, in-built theme manager app, in-built file manager app and more. TWRP recovery can be used to easily install custom ROMs, kernels, tweaks, etc. You can easily perform backups and wipe. In nutshell, the TWRP recovery is really a great tool for your Samsung Galaxy S4.
However it’s very important to note that the TWRP recovery for Galaxy S4 is in experimental builds as for (18 April 2013), so you may face bugs.
The below guide walks you through how to install TWRP recovery for Galaxy S4 I9505 (I9500 can be found here). You need a Windows PC with USB phone drivers installed, you can use Samsung KIES to install drivers but disable KIES before installation because it may disturb installation.

Step #1: Download the latest version of TWRP recovery for Galaxy S4 I9505 from here [XDA Link].
Step #2: Download Odin3 v3.04 (Odin3_v3.04.zip) to your PC.
Step #3: Unzip the downloaded Odin3_v3.04.zip file into a folder.
Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.
Step #5: Turn the device off.
Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do this, reboot phone by holding down volume down, home and power buttons.
Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).
Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate tar.md5 from the folder that you downloaded in first step like (TWRP_2.5-i9505_.tar) where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).
Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.
Step #10: Unplug phone from PC.
That’s it, the TWRP recovery is now installed on your Samsung Galaxy S4, if you experience any error during installation, do comment.
