How To Root Sprint Galaxy Note 2 Without Increasing Flash Counter


The Sprint Galaxy Note 2 has already received Chainfire CD-Root tool that easily root the device but the problem with it is that it increases the flash counter that track your installation record and give the record to Samsung. But now a recognized XDA developer member mrRobinson has found a new rooting package that roots your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 without increasing the flash counter. He has released a pre-rooted Samsung stock factory firmware, even you’ll still be able to receive OTA updates.

Read on how to install pre-rooted stock factory Samsung firmware on Sprint Galaxy Note 2. As usual, use a Windows PC, USB drivers should be installed on it. You may use Samsung KIES to install drivers, but before installation disable. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the rooted stock firmware for Sprint Galaxy Note 2 from here or here.

Step #2: Download Odin3_v3.04.zip file to your PC.

Step #3: Unzip both .zip files into a folder.

Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do so reboot your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 by holding down volume down, home and power buttons until screen turns on, then press volume up button to enter in download mode.

Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will change color, and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate root66_SPR_L900VPALJ1.tar.md5 from the folder where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.

Step #10: Unplug your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 from PC.
