How To Unlock Bootloader of HTC Droid DNA
Verizon doesn’t allow you to unlock the bootloader of many Verizon devices, there are so many examples such as Galaxy S3, HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE and more. But just a few days ago Verizon and HTC launched the HTC Droid DNA that comes with unlockable bootloader, it’s like surprise for us. You can unlock the Droid DNA bootloader through HTC developer center, thanks to Droid Life for sharing this.
It’s pretty easy to unlock the Droid DNA bootloader through HTC Dev, this guide shows you how to unlock the HTD Droid DNA bootloader with HTC Dev center. But first do keep in mind that unlocking bootloader will void the warranty of your phone. You’ll not receive OTA updates, you’ll have to install OTA updates manually.
Unlock bootloader also wipe your smartphone data, so be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps. You need a Windows PC and USB phone drivers should be installed on your computer, you can use HTC Sync to install drivers.
Update: Verizon has forced HTC to withdraw the unlock support from the HTCDEV center and HTC has accepted it, but it’s still possible to unlock the bootloader, however you need to use an unofficial method to do so. All you need to change the CID files on the phone that will make you able to connect the device with HTCDEV center, simply head over to this guide first to change CID files, once you’re done, return to this guide to unlock the bootloader.

Step #1: Download the Fastboot Package (fastboot.zip) to your PC.
Step #2: Unzip the downloaded fastboot.zip file into C:\, you’ll get a fastboot folder containing four files.
Step #3: Head over to HTC Dev Center and there sign up.
Step #4: Login to your HTC account and click on the “unlock bootloader”.
Step #5: Select “all other supported models” and then select “being unlock bootloader”. It will show a popup warning, read it and click on Yes to confirm the action.
Step #6: You’ll be asked to accept terms, check both boxes and select “proceed to unlock instructions”. It will take you to next page where you’ll see four steps.
Step #7: Open the second page on HTC Dev and click on “proceed to step 5” button. There don’t follow anything, instead of it, perform following steps (that’s all you have to do on this page, it’s easy to understand):
- Open the command prompt on the PC that can be found in start menu>programs>accessories.
- Type “cd c:\ fastboot” and press enter, it will take you to fastboot folder.
- Then type “fastboot devices” and press enter, it will generate the serial number of your phone, which means you phone is connected to PC properly.
Step #8: Now on the HTC page click “proceed to step 8”, there follow all steps. Once you’re done, you’ll get a message “token submitted successfully” and receive an email.
Step #9: Open the email you received, download unlock_code.bin attached file.
Step #10: Copy the downloaded unlock_code.bin file to the fastboot folder you got in step 2.
Step #11: Enter following command to install the unlock_code.bin file:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
You’ll unlock bootloader message on phone, use volume up button to highlight it, then use power button to select it and your phone will reboot after unlocking and automatically reset factory.
Step #12: You’re done, the bootloader of your phone is unlocked. You confirm it by rebooting phone into bootloader mode, to do so turn off phone and reboot phone by holding down volume down and power button, you’ll see “unlocked” written at the top of screen.
That’s it, now you’re able to root the phone, and install custom recovery to get custom ROMs.
