How To Unlock Bootloader of Nexus 4
Unlocking the bootloder lets you to easily and completely modify your Android device and those of you have got the Nexus 4 and want to customize it, can now easily unlock bootloader of phone. You need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because unlocking bootloader will wipe your phone data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Step #1: Download Fastboot package to your computer.
Step #2: Unzip the downloaded fastboot-win32.zip into android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder in C driver, you may make folder if not already there.
Step #3: Turn your Nexus 4 off.
Step #4: Reboot your Nexus 4 into bootloader mode, to do so reboot phone by holding down volume down and power buttons until text appear on the screen.
Step #5: Plug your Nexus 4 to PC using USB cable.
Step #6: Open command prompt and navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory. If you’re on windows 7, you can open command prompt directly from the folder, to do so open the folder, there hold down shift button on keyboard and right click on any empty area, then select “open command prompt here”.
Step #7: Enter following command, it will show the serial number of your phone which means your phone is properly connected with the PC in bootloader mode.
Step #8: Enter following command on command prompt to unlock bootloader.
fastboot oem unlock
Step #9: Follow onscreen instructions.
Step #10: After following instructions, your phone will reboot automatically, if it doesn’t happen, enter following command to reboot phone manually:
That’s it, the bootloader of your Nexus 4 is now unlocked, enjoy! When you need to relock bootloader, follow the above guide again but enter “fastboot oem lock” command.
