How to Upgrade Nexus 7 to Android 4.1.2 JZO54K Firmware Manually

The latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is finally available, Google has started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Nexus 7, the new Nexus 7 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean firmware version is JZO54K that is incremental upgrade but still very important because it brings many changes and bug fixes, it also improves the stability and performance, as you all Nexus 7 owners like me know well that there’s no landscape mode but now we can change the orientation of our tablet, this JZO54K Android 4.1.2 firmware brings landscape mode to Nexus 7. According to AOSP (Android Open Source Project), the JZO54K should roll out today, many users have installed JZO54K Jelly Bean update.

However, those of you haven’t received the OTA Android 4.1.2 JZO54K firmware update notification, can now install JZO54K on Nexus 7 manually, here’s a guide how to manually install official JZO54K Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware on Nexus 7. Do keep in mind that this JZO54K OTA update is for Nexus 7 running Android 4.1.1 JRO03D build only, check your Nexus 7 detail from Setting>About Device.

Instructions

Step #1: Download JZO54K Android 4.1.2 OTA update (File Name: 03a4eaf95f73.signed-nakasi-JZO54K-from-JRO03D.03a4eaf9.zip) to your computer.

Step #2: Download ADB Package for your computer.

Step #3: Unzip the downloaded ADB package into a folder.

Step #4: On your Nexus 7 tablet, turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Step #5: Turn your Nexus 7 off.

Step #6: Reboot your Nexus 7 into bootloader mode, to do so reboot the device by holding down the volume up and power buttons until you see fastboot menus, when you see menus, plug your tablet to computer using USB cable. Then press the volume up button to navigate to recovery option and press power button to select it.

Step #7: When the Android with the red exclamation shows up, hold down power button first, followed quickly by volume down and volume up, now holding down these three buttons a menu will show up, then release them (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #8: Select update from ABD.

Step #9: On your PC, launch command prompt or terminal window, then navigate to folder where ADB package is exist, if you’re using Windows 7 or above, you can directly open the command prompt from the folder, to do so open up the folder, there right click on any empty area of folder while holding down shift key on keyboard, then select open command prompt here.

Step #10: For windows, enter following command:

adb.exe sideload 03a4eaf95f73.signed-nakasi-JZO54K-from-JRO03D.03a4eaf9.zip

For Mac enter following command:

./adb-mac sideload 03a4eaf95f73.signed-nakasi-JZO54K-from-JRO03D.03a4eaf9.zip

For Linux, enter following command:

./adb sideload 03a4eaf95f73.signed-nakasi-JZO54K-from-JRO03D.03a4eaf9.zip

The update installation will start, once it done, select “reboot system now” on your tablet to reboot your Nexus 7.

That’s it, you’re done, the Android 4.1.2 JZO54K Jelly Bean software update is now installed on your Nexus 7 tablet, you may check the software version from Setting>About Device.
