ICS AOKP ROM for AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 [How-To]

When AKOP ROM released many developers start to port it in their devices, and now it’s available for your Galaxy S2, including the ROM Control Mod which can be easily customized. This ROM is still under development so you can expect some bugs but stable for daily use, to install this follow below guide but first note that your device must be rooted with recovery installed, its battery should be 70% Charged, make backup device data because the below procedure will wipe all data, and turn the USB Debugging on, just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development to do so. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Installation Instructions

Section 1

Step #1: Download OAKP_1MAR2012_i777r1.zip file to PC.

Step #2: Now connect the device with PC via USB cable and transfer the downloaded file to the root of SD card.

Step #3: Disconnect the device from PC and turn it off.

Step #4: Reboot into recovery mode, and in recovery mode do a nandroid backup by selecting “backup> backup and restore> then backup” to start saving your old ROM. (This will make a full backup of your existing ROM, and save it to the SD card. You can restore from this backup, if something gets messed up with the installation.)

Step #5: Now do a full wipe by selecting Mount and Storage then wipe the following:

  • Format System
  • Format Data
  • Format Cache
  • Go back to main menu and select advance then wipe dalvik-cache.

Step #6: From the main menu select “install zip from Sd card> choose zip from Sd card>” then select the OAKP_1MAR2012_i777r1.zip to start flashing the AOKP ROM (ICS).

Step #7: Go back to main menu and select Reboot System now.

Section 2

Step #1: You’ve installed the ROM, now you’ll need to install Google apps, to install first Download the gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip on your computer.

Step #2: Connect device with PC via USB cable and copy the gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip to the root directory of your SD card.

Step #3: Disconnect the device from PC and turn it off.

Step #4: Reboot in recovery mode and From the recovery main menu select install zip from Sd card> choose zip from Sd card> then select the gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip to start flashing the Google Apps.

Step #5: Go back to main menu and select Reboot System now.

Section 3

Step #1: You’ve installed apps, now download the SuInstall.zip

Step #2: Connect device with PC via USB cable and copy the gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip to the root directory of your SD card.

Step #3: Disconnect the device from PC and turn it off.

Step #4: Reboot in recovery mode and From the recovery main menu select install zip from Sd card> choose zip from Sd card> then select the SuInstall.zip to start flashing it.

Step #5: Go back to main menu and select Reboot System now.

Step #6: After the ROM boots, download Superuser app from the Android Market to be able to use root functions. That’s it enjoy!
