Install Android 2.3.6 Value Pack “XWJW5” On Galaxy S GT-I9000


Samsung has released another value pack “XWJW5” for Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 that gives a smooth experience on Galaxy S. The XWJW5 is based on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread, not Ice Cream Sandwich but it comes with many changes. The firmware is currently available for a few regions of the world, and there’s no news about its world wide release, but you can follow below guide to install it manually on your Galaxy S.

Before you start first keep in mind that device battery should be charged. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Instructions

Step #1: Download XWJW5 Firmware Zip Package to computer and unzip it into a single folder.

Step #2: Download the Odin to your PC and run it.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into download mode by holding down the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button at the same time until you see the download mode screen.

Step #5: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear.

Step #6: Click on PDA Button and locate JW5_JV4_JW4.tar from the folder where you’ve extracted the downloaded firmware in first step.

Step #7: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS.

Step #8: That’s it, unplug the device from PC and enjoy!
