Install Android 4.0.4 ICS based “BoostHD” On Xperia Arc or Arc S
Sony promised to release the Ice Cream Sandwich update and Sony has been true to its words, official Ice Cream Sandwich update has released for Sony Xperia Arc and Arc S but the update released for a few regions not worldwide, therefore so many owners of Sony Xperia Arc and Arc S are still waiting for the ICS update.
But there’s unofficial custom ROM that based on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich called “BoostHD”available for Sony Xperia Arc and Arc S, thanks to XDA developer “dinesh690”. The ROM is fast and stable, it’s heavily Tweaked, fluid UI. It’s also highly customizable. The ROM features a long battery life and ICS Holo-Dark themed native apps e.g Messaging, calender, contacts, Email etc + Apex launcher. It has V6 Supercharged and lots and lots of other optimizations, like minfree adjustment, I/O tweaks, VM tweaks, SD Card Read Speed tweaks, JIT tweaks etc.
However the ROM is still in beta stage and has some bugs such as video Camera not working and Wifi Hotspot not working, developer will fix them soon. So if Sony didn’t release Ice Cream Sandwich update for your region yet, BoostHD ROM is best solution for your Sony smartphone.
Follow below guide, but keep in mind that the ROM is just for Sony Xperia Arc model number LT15I and Sony Xperia Arc LT18I, so don’t try it any other device, you can check the device detail from Setting>About Phone. Your device must be on stock “4.0.2.A.0.62” firmware and rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed its battery should be charged. The device bootloader should be unlocked Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup to back apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Use windows PC and USB drivers also should be installed on PC.

Instructions
Step #1: Download following four files: BoostHD RC2 ROM - Google Apps - FXP kernel - Fastboot
Step #2: Transfer the downloaded BoostHD RC2 and Google apps files to the root of smartphone’s SD card.
Step #3: Unzip the downloaded fastboot file to C:\, you’ll get fastboot folder, then rename downloaded FXP 116.img file to fxp.img and copy it to fastboot folder.
Step #4: Turn the phone off and hold down Menu button while plugging the phone to PC using USB cable. It’ll plug the device to PC in fastboot mode.
Step #5: Open command prompt, enter following commands to install kernel of ROM:
cd c:\Fastboot
fastboot flash boot fxp.img
Once you’ve entered above commands, a message Finished will appear on command prompt, after that unplug the device from PC.
Step #6: Turn the device off, the phone will turn on with kernel logo, when see blue LED, then start pressing the Back button multiple times till the device enter in recovery mode.
Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.
Step #8: Repeat last step to install Google Apps.
Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.” That’s it, enjoy!
