Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update for Galaxy S2 [official I9100XWLS8 firmware]

Recently Samsung has rolled out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S2 that brought a lot of handy features such as Galaxy S3 UI, TouchWiz Nature UX, Samsung’s S Cloud services, improved camera features, Direct Call, Smart Stay, Pop-up Play and Galaxy S3 widgets, notification bar with more notification Toggles, Google Now app and more.

The Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update is currently available just in Spain (FOP), but if you’re not in Spain and  can’t wait or if you can’t update your Galaxy S2 to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean through OTA and KIES due to any reason, simply download and install the Android 4.1.2 update for Galaxy S2 manually, it’s not a very large size, it’s 541MB I9100XWLS8 firmware having build number JZO54K.

The below guide walks you through how to install official Android 4.1.2 XWLS8 firmware for Galaxy S2 manually using Odin. Use a Windows PC, USB drivers must be installed on the PC, you can download 32 bit (x86) Windows drivers from here and 64-bit (x64) Windows drivers from here. Backup everything because the below procedure may wipe data especially if you’re on custom ROM, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

DISCLAIMER: Please proceed the below guide at your own risk, Android Egis will not be held responsible if your device lost data or gets damaged following this guide.

Instructions

Step #2: Get Odin3 from downloaded file to your PC.

Step #3: Unzip downloaded zip file into a folder.

Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do so reboot device by holding down Volume Down, Home and Power buttons until a warning screen show up on device, then press the volume up button to enter into download mode.

Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate I9100XWLS8_I9100FOPLS3_FOP.tar.md5 from the folder where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again).

Step #10: If your device reboot into normal mode, you’re done, enjoy! But if you device gets stuck at boot screen, you need to perform wipe, to do so, turn off device, then reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons, when screen turns on, leave power button but not volume down until you enter in recovery mode. In recovery mode, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Once it done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot the device.

That’s it, the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean I9100XWLS8 update is now installed on your Samsung Galaxy S2, enjoy! If you experience any error, holler in the comment section.

W-Slam…Dear, i just checked everything and that are working fine, drivers depend on your PC service pack, right click on my computer, go to properties and check PC detail and then try this method everything should work fine and make sure re-partition is unchecked in Odin…….also do note that Odin version doesn’t make any matter weather you’re using 1.85 or 3.04….

I have an S2 with insane chip running 4.0.4 stock. Do i have to put Siyah kernel on my phone first and then try to flash with this firmware, or i can do it with stock kernel ? Is there a chance of bricking if done with stock because of the insane chip ?

you may apply this on stock ….however if you follow the process carefully it won’t disturb but you should not forget that there’s always chance of bricking in manual installation

    Installation failed at step 9 but removing battery and putting it back as recommended is not able to restore the phone. The phone screen keeps showing;
“Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again”
    Please advice.

I have tried the download mode combination (Volume down key + home + power) several times but I get the same screen prompt ; “Firmware upgrade encountered….”
Th only positive thing is that Odin sometimes detects the phone and I connect the cable.

Finally got my phone working again after a lot of attempts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      - I also uninstalled Kies software but keep USB drivers.
      - I was only trying different firmwares and this one worked some magic – ( http://hotfile.com/dl/146496646/395a21a/I9100GJPKK1_I9100GOJPKK2_MID.zip.html )

      - Even though the last flashing failed as shown below it cleared the error screen message and the phone restored in charging mode with the battery sign. I powered on successfully.

turn off phone and reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons and there perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Once it done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.” It should then reboot into normal mode…..
