Install Android 4.1 Based Codename ROM on Galaxy S2 I9100G [How-To]

The Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G variant is getting more and more custom ROMs day by day, many Jelly Bean based custom ROMs already has been released for Galaxy S2 I9100G and here’s another custom ROM named “Codename Android” that also based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, developed by senior XDA developer member samyam2002000.

The Codename Android custom ROM brings full Jelly Bean experience and the developer packed the ROM with lots of useful tweaks and apps such as customizable camera app, customizable messaging app, customizable power menu, customizable notification bar, customizable lockscreen, customizable sound setting, customizable display setting and much more that lets you customize every aspect according to your own taste.

The ROM is currently in development stages but stable for use, however it may has some bugs like the Surfaceflinger issue and external SD card can’t be mounted on PC but you can get access to card through a file manager app. But the developer is working on the ROM to iron out these bugs.

Read on how to install Codename Android custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G. Your phone must be on XXLPQ firmware and rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed, you can check your device detail from Setting>About Phone, you can follow this guide to install XXLPQ firmware and follow this guide to root your Galaxy S2 I9100G firmware on XXLPQ. Be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of Codename Android custom ROM from here [XDA LINK] and also download Google Apps from here.

Step #2: Copy both downloaded .zip files to the internal SD card of your phone.

Step #3: Power off phone.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons.

Step #5: In recovery mode, first you should make nandroid backup of your existing ROM, it’s important because if anything doesn’t work that you expect from Codename Android ROM, you’ll be able to easily go back to your previous state, to do so, select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the Codename Android ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #8: Once the ROM .zip file is installed, repeat the last step again but now install Google Apps package .zip file.

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.

Step #10: Please note that you may face problems in camera app, it takes 3 mega-pixel photo instead of 8 mega-pixel, if it happens, you to need to fix it, if not, you’re done, to fix the issue, download Camera Fix .zip file.

Step #11: Place camera .zip file to internal SD card.

Step #12: Power off phone and reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons.

Step #13: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and select camerafix-codenameandroid.zip that you copied and confirm installation.

Step #14: Once the installation is done, go back to main menu and reboot the phone, simply select “Go Back” then “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.
