Install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Based CM10 on Galaxy Note 10.1 [How-To]

Not a while we posted about DR.AKRIM custom ROM for Galaxy Note 10.1 that based on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich but now Galaxy Note 10.1 users are able to upgrade their tablet to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean instead of Android 4.0.4, a recognized XDA developer member espenfjo has just released unofficial CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) ROM for your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

The CyanogenMod 10 is AOSP based ROM, so it gives you completely stock Jelly Bean experience, it brings a fast performance to your tablet, it has lots of new features and apps like the Google Now service, new search features, new keyboard app with more options, new web browser app and so many customization options that allow you to customize almost every part of interface, the ROM also includes so many new tweaks.

The CM10 is currently in development, it may contains many bugs like camera is unstable, the Wi-Fi tethering is semi-broken and you may also face some issues in audio but the developer will fix them as soon as possible. If you really want to taste Jelly Bean, ignore these minor bugs and install this ROM.

Take a look at below guide to learn how to install CyanogenMod 10 on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, do keep in mind that this build is just for Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi+3G variant, model number N8000, don’t try on Wi-Fi/USA N8010/N8013 variants, you can check the device detail from Setting>About Device.

Make sure that ClockworkMod custom recovery is installed on your tablet, you can follow our this guide to install ClockworkMod and you also need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK] and Google Apps from here or here.

Step #2: Transfer the both downloaded .zip files to the internal storage of the tablet.

Step #3: Turn your Galaxy Note 10.1 off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up and power buttons, when   screen turns on, leave power not but not volume up until you enter in ClockworkMod recovery mode.

Step #5: In recovery mode, you should make nandroid backup of existing ROM, it’s really important because if anything doesn’t work that you want from this CM10 ROM, you’ll be able to go back to with this backup, to make the backup, select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #8: Once the installation is done, install the Google Apps package .zip file in the same manner.

Step #9: Once both .zip files are installed on the tablet, return to main menu and reboot the device, to do so select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”

That’s it, you’re done, enjoy Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. When you need to go back, simply put the device into recovery mode and restore the backup you taken before installation. You can also visit the original thread of XDA link given in first step.
