Install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Based MIUI on Verizon Galaxy S3

There are just four US Galaxy S3 variants are available and three of them already has received almost all popular Jelly Bean ROMs but the Verizon is bit late due to its locked bootloader, just a few days ago, Android development community successfully unlocked the smartphone’s bootloader and now we’re able to many releases from the development community like recently MIUI released for it unofficially that based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, thanks to XDA developer member Bleelas for this effort.

The MIUI ROM is well-known due to its unique and stunning interface, it gives a beautiful look and feel to your smartphone, it features intuitive status bar and a stunning home launcher. The MIUI team packed the ROM with a lot of useful features such as theme manager (many themes are available), better privacy protection and many other tweaks. The Jelly Bean also comes with number of new features and apps like the new Google Now app, new smarter keyboard, new notification bar, new camera app and much more.

The ROM is still under development and contains some bugs and issues, like notification sounds and might be some other sounds won’t play until you turned the volume all the way, to fix this issue, go to Setting> Phone Ringtone, there select anything you want, if it doesn’t play, you have to turn volume up and select it. The LED doesn’t stop flashing, the developer will iron out bugs soon in near future.

Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA Link].

Step #2: Transfer the downloaded .zip file to SD card of device.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons, when screen turns on leave all buttons (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step 1 and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #8: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
