The LG Optimus S isn’t died yet, it’s still a powerful device that recently received AOSP Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based CyanogenMod 10 custom ROM. The ROM brings a smooth performance and numbers of new features but it’s still under development stage, it has some bugs like camera, MMS and Google Now aren’t working yet but it’s worthy to try CM10 on Optimus S.

Read on how to install CyanogenMod 10 on LG Optimus S. Keep in mind that your device must be rooted with a custom recovery installed. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of CM10 ROM and Google Apps from here [Android Central Link]

Step #2: Copy both .zip files under SD card.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode.

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen. Lastly wipe/format the /system partition from “mounts and storage”

Step #7: Install CM10 .zip file.

Step #8: Install Google Apps .zip file.

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, reboot phone.
