Install Android 4.2 CM10.1 ROM for Xperia Arc and Arc S


The Android development community spreading the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean love through custom ROMs and one of best CyanogenMod 10.1 custom ROM has been ported to Xperia Arc and Arc S unofficially, the CyanogenMod is known for its awesome customization options and useful apps such as Apollo music player, file manager, etc.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean also brings a lot of new features such as gesture-based keyboard app, redesigned clock app, stunning interface, panorama mode for photography, and more. However this is early CyanogenMod 10.1 release and it contains a few bugs such as Bluetooth and camera app isn’t working, you can Ucam app as a camera.

Read on how to install CyanogenMod 10.1 for Xperia Arc and Arc S, your phone bootloader must be unlocked and ClockworkMod recovery also should be installed on it, unlock bootloader here and install ClockworkMod recovery here, Android ADB also should be installed on your PC, check this guide to install ADB. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps (don’t use Titanium Backup), though the APN setting automatically restored from network, it make mobile date work, but if it doesn’t happen to you, restore it manually, you can use APN app to do so.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of CyanogenMod ROM for Xperia Arc or Arc S from here [XDA Link] and Google Apps package.

Step #2: Copy both zip files to the internal storage of your phone.

Step #3: Download the fastboot package (Fastboot.zip) to your PC.

Step #4: Unzip the downloaded fastboo.zip file into C:\, you’ll get fastboot folder, then unzip the ROM zip file (that you downloaded in firsts step), it’ll provide the boot.img file, copy this file to fastboot folder too.

Step #5: Plug the USB cable to phone but not to PC, then on your phone, hold down the menu key while plugging the phone to PC, it will plug phone to PC in fastboot mode.

Step #6: Run command prompt on PC that can be found from Start menu>All Programs>Accessories.

Step #7: Enter following command on command prompt, it will take you to fastboot folder:

cd c:\Fastboot

Step #8: Enter following command prompt to install boot.img:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

If you get a message saying “waiting for device”, then enter another command to install kernel:

fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img 

Once the boot.img is installed on your phone, you’ll get a message saying “finished”/OKAY.

Step #9: Unplug the phone from PC.

Step #10: Turn the device off, the screen will turn on and you’ll see kernel logo, when LED lights show up, start pressing the Back button until you enter into recovery (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and home button to select).

Step #11: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #12: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.

Step #13: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #14: Once again repeat the previous step and install the Google Apps zip file in the same manner.

Step #15: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.
