Install AOKP Jelly Bean on Xperia T [How-To]

The Jelly Bean fun for the Xperia T hasn’t stopped yet, after the CyanogenMod 10, now the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based AOKP has also been arrived for your Xperia T. For unfamiliar, the AOKP is well-known custom ROM for customizable features that allow you to tweak the performance of your Android device, it’s AOSP ROM so it will give your stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience, thanks to recognized XDA developer member championswimmer, it’s similar to CyanogenMod 10 but has some extra features and customization as well as brings Jelly Bean features such as smarter keyboard, improved camera app, advanced notification bar, Google Now search feature, faster browser and more.

Read on how to install Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based AOKP ROM on Sony Xperia T, do keep in mind that the bootloader of your Xperia T must be unlocked, you can unlock the bootloader officially here and ClockworkMod recovery also should be installed on it, follow our this guide to install ClockworkMod recovery. You need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps. Use a Windows PC and make sure Android ADB is installed on the PC, check out our this guide to install ADB.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the AOKP ROM for your Xperia T from here and also download Google Apps package from here.

Step #2: Place both download.zip files to the internal storage of your Xperia T.

Step #3: Download fastboot package (fastboot.zip) to your PC.

Step #4: Unzip the downloaded fastboot.zip file to C:\, you’ll get fastboot folder containing four files.

Step #5: Unzip the ROM .zip file you downloaded in first step, you’ll get boot.img file, copy this file to the fastboot folder at C:\.

Step #6: Make sure the phone isn’t connected with the phone.

Step #7: On your Xperia T, hold down the volume up key while plugging the phone back to PC using USB cable, the PC will detect the phone in fastboot mode, the screen will remain blank in the fastboot mode, you just see the LED on phone lit.

Step #8: On your PC, run command prompt that can be found from Start menu>Programs>Accessories.

Step #9: Enter following commands on command prompt to install the required boot.img:

cd c:\Fastboot

fastboot flash boot boot.img

If you get s message saying “waiting for device”, enter another following command to install it:

fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img

Once the boot.img is installed, you’ll get a message saying “finished”/OKAY.

Step #10: Follow this carefully, enter following command it will reboot the phone, once the phone reboot and you see LED light purple, start pressing volume up key, no, you no need to hold down the button but press multiple times and it will take you to ClockworkMod recovery mode.

Step #11: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select, now first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #12: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.

Step #13: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #14: Once again repeat the previous step and install the Google Apps package .zip file in the same manner.

Step #15: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot the phone.

That’s it, the AOKP is now installed on your Xperia T, enjoy the Jelly Bean!
