Install AOSP 4.2 Jelly Bean ROM for Sprint Galaxy Nexus


The Sprint Galaxy Nexus users are still waiting for official OTA update to taste new Android 4.2 and there’s no official word for release date. But here’s a new AOSP 4.2 custom ROM for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus and it’s based on Android 4.2 , thanks to senior XDA developer iwasaperson. It’s fully stock custom ROM and brings all new Android 4.2 features gesture-based keyboard, panorama photography , lockscreen widgets, improved notification bar and more.

This guide shows you how to install AOSP 4.2 Jelly Bean on Sprint Galaxy Nexus. But do keep in mind that the bootloader of your phone must be unlocked and ClockworkMod recovery also should be installed on it. Check our this guide to unlock bootloader, and follow this guide to install touch lockworkMod recovery, you can also use all-in-one toolkit to do all. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the AOSP 4.2 Jelly Bean ROM and Google Apps Package from XDA.

Step #2: Transfer the downloaded files to phone.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode, to do so, reboot phone by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons, the device will reboot into fastboot mode, in fastboot mode, use volume keys to navigate and power button to select and select recovery option.

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select Install and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #8: Repeat the last step again to install Google Apps .zip file.  

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.
