How To Install ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) on Galaxy S5 [Supported Versions]


The Samsung Galaxy S5 is really one of top end phone for this year. With dozens of useful features, it makes your life very easy running on Android OS. The GS5 uses a bright and beautiful design. You can load apps of your choice officially compatible with your phone. But if you love to play with unofficial custom ROMs, you need to grab a better custom recovery and CWM Galaxy S5 version is now available. The popular CWM (ClockworkMod) custom recovery enables you to perform almost all the basic awesome things under recovery mode. You can easily flash custom ROM zip files, take nandroid backups, perform wipe and factory reset the phone.

Here you can load the ClockworkMod custom recovery on your Samsung Galaxy S5 but only on following supported versions. As far, following Galaxy S5 variants are compatible:

  • Exynos Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900H
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900W8
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900I
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900P

You need a Windows PC with USB phone drivers installed, you can use Samsung KIES to install drivers but disable KIES before installation because it may disturb installation.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the ClockworkMod CWM recovery for Galaxy S5 from here (Note: If you are using GS5 SM-G900H, download CWM for your phone from here).

Step #2: Download Odin3 v3.07 to your PC.

Step #3: Unzip the downloaded Odin3_v3.07.zip file into a folder.

Step #4: Open the folder where you have unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.07.exe.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do this, reboot phone by holding down volume down, home and power buttons.

Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate tar.md5 from the folder that you downloaded in first step like (TWRP_2.5.tar) where you have unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).

Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.

Step #10: Unplug phone from PC.

That’s it, the ClockworkMod recovery is now installed on your Samsung Galaxy S5. If you experience some problems while flashing recovery, drop comments and let us know.
