Install CyanogenMod 9 Based On Android 4.0.3 ICS On Your Motorola Defy [How-To]

Good news for the owners of Motorola Defym, now they can enjoy Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on their Motorola Defy via CyanogenMod 9. New custom ROM jampacked for their device however it still in beta so you can expect some bugs but it stable for daily use that has awesome features and improvements.

If you’re interested follow below guide to install it, but keep in mind that your device must be rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed its battery should be charged. Please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure will wipe all data, you can use this app to backup.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest CyanogenMod 9 nightly build and Google Apps and also CM7 (froyo) Kernel.

Step #2: Connect the device to PC using USB cable and copy the downloaded ZIP files to the root of your phone’s internal SD card.

Step #3: Unplug the device from PC and turn it off.

Step #4: Press the Power button and your phone will start up and display the Motorola logo.  Wait until you see the blue LED light up.  When it does, press the Volume Down button to enter bootmenu.

Step #5: Now in bootmenu, use the Volume keys the highlight “Recovery”.  Press the Power button to select it.  Then, select “Custom Recovery” to enter ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step #6: In Recovery, go to Backup and Restore > Backup and create a Nandroid backup of your current system.

Step #7: Select “Wipe Data/Factory Reset” and confirm the operation on the next screen.

Step #8: Select “Install zip from sdcard.”  Browse for and select the CynogenMod 9 package that you copied to the phone earlier.  Confirm that you wan to flash the package.

Step #9: Once again repeat step 8, but this time choose the CM7 kernel package. After that again repeat Step 8 for Google Apps package.

Step #10: Now Return to the main menu of ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step #11: Select “Wipe Cache” and confirm the action on the next screen.

Step #12: From the Advanced menu, select “Wipe Dalvik cache” and confirm the action on the next screen.

Step #13: Return to main recovery menu. And Select “Reboot system now.” That’s it, you’ve installed, please don’t forget to comment below.
