Install CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) Nightly on AT&T Galaxy S3


CyanogenMod 9, the most popular Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich based custom ROM, has arrived for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747, it’s pure ASOP (Android Open Source Project) custom ROM and a XDA developer member ChaosMinionX released its nightly build for the Samsung flagship smartphone.

For those of you don’t know about nightly builds, nightly builds rebuild daily automatically at night, which means some things may show bugs sometime. The ROM is still in development stage and has a few bugs like USB and Camera Touch Focus is misbehaving, the ROM also has issues in voicemail and Camera Storage Point. But if really want to enjoy CyanogenMod 9, read on how to install CM9 on AT&T Galaxy S3.

Keep in mind that ClockworkMod recovery should be installed on smartphone, you can follow this guide to install it, or just this toolkit for this purpose, device battery should be charged. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here and Google Apps from here to PC.

Step #2: Copy both zip files to SD card of device.

Step #3: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #4: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #5: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #6: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #7: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
