Install ICS AOKP Milestone 6 on HTC Desire

A most stable build of Ice Cream Sandwich is now available for the HTC Desire, a XDA developer member named pratheek1992 that just ported the AOKP build Milestone 6 to the HTC Desire that is based on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s pretty fast and stable for the daily drive.

The fame AOKP custom ROM has a lot of customizable features and custom apps that allow you to customize different aspects of interface, the ROM gives you full stock Ice Cream Sandwich experience and this port also includes the Samsung Galaxy S3 TouchWiz launcher and number of other useful features like the ROM Control, AOKP wallpapers, USB tether toggle, clock widgets, boot animation, and more, The Facebook sync has been removed from the ROM and some other bloatware also have been removed.

The below guide shows you how to install AOKP Milestone 6 on HTC Desire, your smartphone must have stock HBOOT/bootloader and ClockworkMod Recovery installed, you can follow our this guide to install ClockworkMod touch recovery. Make sure the device battery is charged and make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of AOKP Milestone ROM from here and Google Apps from here.

Step #2: Transfer both downloaded .zip files to the SD card of phone.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume down and power button, firstly you’ll enter in bootloader mode, there select recovery option to enter in recovery mode.

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: From the main menu, select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Once the installation is done, also install Google Apps package .zip file in the same manner.

Step #8: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
