Just in Android you can see the cooperation between developers and end-users and they provide you firmware updates before the official release like recently the Verizon Samsung Fascinate the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update via an unofficial AOKP custom ROM, thanks to XDA developer member Stephen.k.spear for this great effort, Fascinate is only lower end Samsung smartphone that got the update late.

Since this is unofficial AOKP ROM, it might contains many bugs but it looks promising and you can install it on your Samsung Fascinate, the below guide will walk you through how to install Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based AOKP ROM on Verizon Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500.

The ClockworkMod recovery must be installed on your Samsung Fascinate, be sure to follow our this guide to install ClockworkMod recovery and be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA Link] and Google Apps from here (gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip).

Step #2: Transfer the downloaded .zip files to the internal SD card of device.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down power, volume down and volume up buttons until a Samsung logo show up on the screen twice (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete, the device will reboot during the installation, then will continue the installation, but if it reboots and doesn’t start installation again, once again select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip. If smartphone gets stuck at boot animation, remove battery from the device for a few seconds, then re-insert it back to the phone and reboot into recovery mode and install this ROM .zip file again.

Step #8: After ROM .zip file installation, install the Google Apps .zip file in the same manner.

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
