Install Jelly Bean Based ParanoidAndroid ROM on Samsung Epic 4G Touch

The Samsung Epic 4G Touch hasn’t seen so many Jelly Bean ROMs but Android community is now paying attention on the smartphone, a recognized XDA developer member KBizzle released the Paranoid Android custom ROM that based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

The ParanoidAndroid ROM features unique tablet and smartphone mode user interface, it features hybrid mode for the effective use of the screen’s real-estate, you can use phone, phablet and tablet UI modes, you scale and size apps and different aspect of the interface, the ROM is packed with number of useful features and as most of you know that Jelly Bean comes with numerous new features and apps like new search feature, Google Now app, smart keyboard and more.

The ROM is still in development, so bugs can expect bugs but the developer is ironing out all bugs. Take a look at below guide to learn how to install ParanoidAndroid ROM on Samsung Epic 4G Touch. Before you install the ROM, first make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps. Use a Windows computer and USB device drivers must be installed on your computer, you can download them from here.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of Paranoid Android ROM from here [XDA Link] and also download the Google Apps Package (gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip).

Step #2: Place both download .zip to the internal SD card of your Epic 4G Touch.

Step #3: Now you need to install EL26 sock ClockworkMod recovery, so first download the EL26 sock ClockworkMod recovery (StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5).

Step #4: Download the required Odin 1.85.zip file that will be used to install recovery.

Step #5: Make sure the phone isn’t connected to the computer.

Step #6: Unzip the downloaded Odin 1.85.zip into a folder and run Odin3 v1.85.exe.

Step #7: Turn off your Epic 4G Touch smartphone.

Step #8: Put the device into download mode, to do so, reboot phone by holding down volume down and power buttons until a warning screen appear on the phone, then press volume up button to enter in download mode.

Step #9: Once the device is in download mode, plug the phone to PC using USB cable, the Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).

Step #10: Click on PDA button and locate the StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5 file that you downloaded in step 3.

Step #11: Uncheck the Auto Reboot option, don’t make any other changes in Odin.

Step #12: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.

Step #13: Once the file is installed on the phone, unplug the device from PC, then remove battery from phone for a few seconds, then re-insert it back to phone but don’t reboot phone.

Step #14: Reboot phone into ClockworkMod recovery mode by holding down volume up and power buttons until screen turns on (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #15: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #16: From the main menu, select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM file that you’ve transferred in above step 2 and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete. The installation may take time.

Step #17: Once the ROM file is installed on the phone, once again repeat the previous step and install gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip file, the installation may take time.

Step #18: Once both .zip files are installed on the phone, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
