Install Jelly Bean CyanogenMod 10 on Samsung Captivate
The Samsung Captivate i897 has joint the list of devices that has received CyanogenMod 10 (CM10), the CM10 is based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly bean , it brings a smooth performance and new user interface, the ROM gives you fully stock Android experience, thanks to XDA developer member wrsmega.
The ROM is compiled different sources, it’s unofficial build and still in development stage, mostly things are working fine, however the ROM still has some bugs, you can’t mount your external SD card to PC, you might also face some other minor bugs. If you really want to taste Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, take a look at below step by step guide to install CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) on your Samsung Captivate.
Do note that ClockworkMod recovery must be installed on your Samsung Captivate, its battery should be charged, make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps. You also need to remove the sim card lock, if you have set it earlier, you can remove it from Settings>Location and Security>Sim card lock, there make sure that checkbox isn’t selected.

Instructions
Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK], Google Apps from here, lastly download the required kernel from here.
Step #2: Transfer the downloaded .zip files to SD card of device, place files in internal SD card, not in external SD card.
Step #3: Turn the device off.
Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down the volume up, volume down and power buttons (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).
Step #5: In recovery mode, you should make a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.
Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.
Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.
Step #8: Now you need to install kernel file, to do so, once again, select “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the Devil3_0.79_cappy_CFS_BLN_VC_20120618.zip that you downloaded in step 1, do keep in mind that the device may reboot in recovery mode during the installation, it’s normal, but if device gets stuck at boot loop on rebooting, simply remove battery from the phone, then reinsert battery back to phone and reboot into recovery mode.
Step #9: Once again, repeat the step 7 to install gapps-jb-20120715.zip file.
Step #10: Once the installation is done, return to main recovery menu, there select advanced, then select Fix permissions.
Step #11: Now simply select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
That’s it, you’re done, enjoy CyanogenMod 10 Jelly Bean. When you want to revert back, put the phone in recovery mode and restore the backup that you taken in installation. If you faced any issue, do comment, you can also visit the original thread of XDA link give in first step.
