Install Jelly Bean CypherROM on Infuse 4G – AOKP Based ROM

Android development community is spreading the Jelly Bean fever everywhere, nowadays almost every Android users trying to taste the Jelly Bean in different ways such as via custom ROMs, here’s a Jelly Bean ROM for the Samsung Infuse 4G named CypherROM.

The CypherROM is based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and ported from the AOKP, the AOKP is well-known custom ROM for customizable features that allow you to tweak the different aspects of your Android device for enhancing its performance. The Jelly Bean also brings a lot of new features and apps such as the advanced notification bar, advanced keyboard app, better browser, new Google Now searching app and much more.

However the CypherROM is still being updated and currently has bugs, take a look on current issues:

All the same issues as ICS and the other JB Roms

Video recording choppy at 720res in high light…use 480

Torch not working. There is an app in the Play Store called MaxFlash that works well. I’m still working on this.

Nandroid Backup broken. Download This Fix and flash from recovery. I’ll fix this in next build.

I highly recommend Nova Launcher. It’s by far the fastest and smoothest with JB.

Read on how to install CypherROM on Samsung Infuse 4G i997, do keep in mind that your smartphone must be on the UCLB3 firmware and rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed, check your device detail from Setting>About Phone, if you’re not on UCBL3 firmware, follow our this guide to install UCBL3 firmware and follow our this guide to root and install ClockworkMod on Infuse 4G running UCBL3 firmware. Be sure to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of CypherROM and Gapps (Google Apps) from here [XDA Link].

Step #2: Transfer both .zip files to the SD card of phone.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

 Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.

Step #8: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation.

Step #9: Repeat the previous step and install the gapps in the same manner.

Step #10: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
