Install Jelly Bean on Nexus S 4G [How-To]

Google will release the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Xoom officially in mid of July but many devices already received unofficial Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM such as HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 and one of hardworking XDA developer CooLoserTech has ported Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Google Nexus S 4G.

However the ROM is still in very earlier stages and many features are not working currently like audio, wireless connection, ambient light sensor and some other minor things but wireless connection and audio bugs suggest that the ROM isn’t ready for the daily use but if you really want to taste Jelly Bean, here’s guide to install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on Nexus S 4G.

Before installation do note that the ROM is just for GSM Nexus S 4G, so don’t try the ROM on any other model or device. Device must be rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed its battery should be charged. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK] to PC.

Step #2: Plug the device to PC using USB cable.

Step #3: Transfer the downloaded file to SD card of device.

Step #4: Disconnect the device from PC.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up key and the Power buttons (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #7: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #8: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select wipe cache and confirm on the next screen.

Step #9: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #10: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
