Install JellyBean 4.2 ROM on Samsung Captivate


The Samsung Captivate is still a powerful smartphone as it has just received an Android 4.2.1 based custom ROM named JellyBean 4.2. The Android 4.2 brought a lot of new and useful features such as improved Google Now app, improved notification bar, panorama mode, gesture-based keyboard app, and more. It’s AOSP custom ROM and also includes some CyanogenMod’s features, thanks to recognized XDA developer member pawitp for developing this ROM. The ROM seems stable for daily use and almost everything working fine, some user reported that Wi-Fi isn’t working but some said it’s working.

Read on how to install JellyBean 4.2 ROM on Samsung Captivate. The ClockworkMod recovery must be installed on your phone and you need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of JellyBean 4.2 ROM from here [XDA Link] and Google Apps Package from here.

Step #2: Transfer both zip files to the internal storage of your phone.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode, to do so reboot phone by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons until screen turns on.

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.

Step #8: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #9: Once again repeat the pervious step and install the Google Apps Package zip file in the same manner.

Step #10: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot phone.

That’s it, the JellyBean 4.2 ROM is now installed on your Samsung Captivate. If the Bluetooth doesn’t work, install this fix zip file in recovery mode. If you faced any problem, holler comment. You can also visit the original thread of XDA link is given in first step.
