Samsung has stopped supporting Samsung Captivate but Android community is still ready to help you that has recently released MIUI Jelly Bean themed JellyUI custom ROM for your Samsung Captivate, the ROM is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, thanks to senior XDA developer member Arisenhavok91.

The MIUI comes with a unique user interface and has number of useful features such as theme manager, improved privacy protection options, and much more but JellyUI custom ROM also adds some more features. The ROM is still in development, so bugs can be expected.

Read on how to install JellyUI custom ROM on Samsung Captivate I897. Keep in mind that ClockworkMod recovery must be installed on your Samsung Captivate, you also need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of JellyUI custom ROM from here [XDA LINK].

Step #2: Place downloaded JellyUI ROM .zip file to the internal SD card of phone.

Step #3: Power off phone reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons until screen turns on (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #4: In recovery mode, first you should make nandroid backup of your existing ROM, because if anything doesn’t work that you expect, you’ll be able to easily revert back to previous ROM with this backup, to make select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #5: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen then select Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache and confirm on the next screen.

Step #6: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate JellyUI .zip file that you’ve copied in above step and confirm installation. The device might reboot during installation and get stuck in a boot loop, if it happens, power off phone, remove better from phone for a few seconds, then re-insert it back to phone, then reboot into recovery mode and install it again.

Step #7: Once the installation is done, return to main menu and reboot phone, to so do select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
