Install Official Android 5.0.1 Update On Galaxy S4 Black Edition
Samsung is busy in updating the Galaxy devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Recently, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Black Edition with LTE capability received the Android 5.0 update officially. But it was rolling out by phases and it is possible you are still waiting for the official OTA notification. Thanks to Odin, we can update the phone manually.
This guide shows you how to install the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update manually on your Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Black Edition with Odin.
Read on how to install Galaxy S4 Black Edition Lollipop update. Use a Windows computer having phone USB drivers. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Step #1: Download the Android 5.0.1 OTA update for Galaxy S4 Black Edition from here:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE GT-I9505
Version: Android 5.0.1
Step #2: Unzip the downloaded zip file into a folder.
Step #3: Download the Odin3 to your PC.
Step #4: Unzip the downloaded Odin zip into a folder too.
Step #5: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3.xx.exe.
Step #6: Turn the device off.
Step #7: Reboot the device into download mode. Reboot device by holding down volume down, home and power buttons, when screen turns on, leave these buttons and press the volume up button to enter intodownload mode.
Step #8: Click on PA Button and locate .tar.md5 from the folder where you’ve unzipped above files in the step 2. (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).
Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again).
Step #10: If your device reboot into normal mode, you’re done, enjoy! But if you device gets stuck at boot screen, you need to perform wipe, to do so, turn off device, then reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons, when screen turns on, leave power button but not volume down until you enter inrecovery mode. In recovery mode, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Once it’s done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
That’s it, the Lollipop update is now installed on your Galaxy S4.
