Good news for the owners of Samsung Captivate I897, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM has been released for their device called “Codename Android”, it’s built with speed, stability, and customizability in mind. Before a few days an Codename Android ROM was released, it roughly translates to official Codename Android ROMs instead of unofficial ports, it’s still under beta so you can expect some bugs. However you can install it.

If you’re interested follow below guide to install it, but keep in mind that your device must be rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed its battery should be charged, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure will wipe all data, you can use this app to backup.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download latest build of Codename Android ROM here and Google Apps from here to PC.

Step #2: Connect the device to PC using USB cable and copy the two ZIP files into the root of your phone’s internal SD card not microSD.

Step #3: Disconnect the device from PC and turn it off.

Step #4: Once the device is completely turned off, reboot into recovery mode just hold down the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons until the screen flashes.

Step #5: Once you’re in recovery mode do nandroid backup by selectingBackup and Restore > Backup from the menu.

Step #6: Reset your phone by selecting Wipe data/ factory reset from the menu and confirming the reset on the next screen.

Step #7: Select Install zip from sdcard > Choose zip from sdcard, browse for the ROM ZIP file you copied to the phone, and select the ZIP file with the Power button.  Confirm the installation by selecting “Yes” to start flashing the ROM.

Step #8: Repeat the step 7 to install Google Apps.

Step #9: Select “go back” then choose “reboot system now” to restart your phone. That’s it enjoy!
