Install Rooted Android 4.0.4 ICS Firmware on Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi

Just a few days ago, Samsung rolled out the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi but for those of you who love to have full control on their tablet, can now root their tablet, a senior XDA developer safariking has just released rooted Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware package. It’s latest official Android 4.0.4 ICS XARLPB firmware that is pre-rooted and already includes BusyBox app, odexed app, and Zipaligned app. The developer also adds Jelly Bean animations to the package, it’s really smooth as butter.

The below guide will walk you through how to install rooted official Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich XARLPB firmware on Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. The ClockworkMod recovery should be installed on the tablet and you also need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly usefile expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of firmware package from here [XDA Link].

Step #2: Place downloaded .zip file to the SD card of tablet.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode, to do so, reboot tablet by holding down volume down and power buttons until you see two icons on screen, first icon is for recovery, press volume down button to highlight icon and then press volume up to enter in recovery mode (Note: In recovery mode use volume keys to navigate and power button to select).

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything goes wrong, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on this action on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #8: Once the installation is done, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”

    In recovery mode the only thing I have is apply update from external storage and apply update from cache what do I do?

      the ClockworkMod recovery isn’t installed on your tablet, first install it then try again…
