Install Slim Bean ROM on HTC One X – A Real Lightweight Jelly Bean ROM

The famed lightweight Slim Bean ROM has been ported to the HTC One X, it’s a trimmed size ROM, the ROM size is just 50MB to 100MB, the ROM has no bloatware, it’s AOSP ROM that based on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, so it will give you fully stock Android experience and it contains many useful customization options to customize the interface. Jelly Bean also brings a lot of new features and apps such as Google Now voice recognizable search feature, advanced notification and keyboard, and much more.

However, the Slim Bean ROM is still being updated to bring more features and under development, so you might face some issues.

Read on how to upgrade the HTC One X to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via Slim Bean custom ROM. Do keep in mind that the bootloader of your HTC One X must be unlocked and ClockworkMod recovery also must be installed on it, you can unlock the bootloader officially here and follow this guide to install ClockworkMod touch recovery, you may also use this all-in-one toolkit to unlock bootloader and install ClockworkMod.  Use Windows PC with USB One X drivers installed, you can use HTC Sync to install them. You also need to make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the Slim Bean ROM and Google Apps Package to your PC.

Step #2: Copy both downloaded .zip files to the SD card of your HTC One X.

Step #3: Turn off your HTC One X and reboot into recovery mode by holding down volume down and power buttons, you’ll enter in bootloader mode, there select recovery option to enter in recovery mode by using volume keys and power keys, once you’re in recovery mode, there make a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything goes wrong, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.  

Step #4: Download the Flash_Boot.zip  to your PC, it will install the required kernel.

Step #5: Unzip the downloaded Flash_Boot.zip into a folder.

Step #6: Also unzip the downloaded Slim Bean ROM .zip file into a folder, you’ll get a file named boot.img, copy this boot.img file to the folder where you’ve unzipped the flash_boot .zip file in previous step.

Step #7: Turn off your phone again and reboot into bootloader mode by holding down volume down and power buttons, when device enter in bootloader mode, there select fastboot mode by using volume and power buttons to enter in fastboot mode.

Step #8: Plug the HTC One X to PC using the USB cable.

Step #9: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped the flash boot.zip file, there run the flash-boot-windows.bat, it will install the required boot.img file, once the installation is done, the command window will close itself or show the message OKAY/finished. Then close the window yourself.

Step #10: On your phone, press the power button to select the bootloadr/hboot, there select recovery option using the volume and power buttons to enter in recovery mode.

Step #11: Perform wipe, select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #12: Return to main menu by selecting “Go Back”.

Step #13: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #14: Once the ROM .zip file is installed on your HTC One X, repeat the previous step again and install the Google Apps package .zip file in the same manner.

Step #15: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now” to reboot your HTC One X.
