Install Unofficial Cyanogenmod 7 On Motorola Photon 4G


Cyanogenmod is AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM, the ROM has released for many smartphones and tablets. You can use it without any need to have any Google application installed and it still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway. Now unofficial Cyanogenmod 7 is also available for Motorola Photon 4G that based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, the ROM has so many new features and it’s very fast too, thanks to XDA developer “cybik”.

The ROM is still in development stage, which means it may has bugs like WiMax is not working for the Sprint variant yet and USCC variant does not have WiMax functionality. But it’s stable for daily use and brings fast performance.

Follow below guide, but keep in mind that ClockworkMod recovery should be installed on phone and its battery should be charged. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup to back apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here and Google apps from here or here to PC.

Step #2: Plug the device to PC using USB cable.

Step #3: Transfer the downloaded file to SD card of device.

Step #4: Disconnect the device from PC.

Step #5: Turn the device off.

Step #6: Reboot the device into recovery mode.

Step #7: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #8: Perform full wipe, select wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on on next screen to confirm.

Step #9: Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #10: Repeat last step to install Google Apps.

Step #11: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
