Jelly Bean Based AOKP for Sprint Galaxy Nexus [Unofficial Build]


After the release of Jelly Bean source codes, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based AOKP custom ROMs are coming for more and more devices, an unofficial Jelly Bean AOKP build has also been released for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, thanks to XDA developer member hoang81.

The ROM comes with number of new features and brings a faster UI on your Android phone, do keep in mind that new AOKP version is currently in development, so bugs can be expected, however everything is working fine and stable for the daily use.

Follow below guide to install AOKP, the bootloader of your phone must be unlocked, ClockworkMod recovery also should be installed on phone, follow this guide to unlock bootloader, and follow this guide to install touch ClockworkMod recovery, you can also use all-in-one toolkit to do all. Make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the latest version of ROM from here [XDA LINK] and Google Apps from here

Step #2: Transfer the downloaded file to phone.

Step #3: Turn the device off.

Step #4: Reboot the device into recovery mode, to do so, reboot phone by holding down volume up, volume down and power buttons, the device will reboot into fastboot mode, in fastboot mode, use volume keys to navigate and power button to select and select recovery option.

Step #5: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #6: Perform full wipe, first select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen.

Step #7: Select “Install and locate the downloaded ROM .zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #8: Once again, repeat last step to install Google Apps .zip file.

Step #9: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”
