Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Galaxy Nexus using One-Click CASUAL Tool


Rooting allows you to cross the limitations of manufacturer on your Android device, it lets you to apply every hack on your device, you can read a comprehensive rooting introduction here. You’ll also need a custom recovery to install custom ROMs, mods and tweaks on your device like ClockworkMod recovery, this recovery also allows you to wipe the device and make a backup of existing ROM.

But rooting and installation of custom recovery is bit tricky, however if you own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and want to root and install ClockworkMod recovery, we’ve an interesting thing got you. You can use a one-click tool to root your Galaxy Nexus, it’ll also install ClockworkMod recovery on your device named CASUAL (Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Universal Android Loader) tool, thanks to XDA developer AdamOutler, before this device, the tool also has been released for Motorola Droid RAZR.

See below guide to use this tool but first please note the tool works on Galaxy Nexus model number SCH-i515, SPH-l700 and GT-i9250, your device should be on Android 4.0.1 or Android 4.0.2, however in near future developer will release the version for Android 4.0.4 too, you can check device detail from Setting>About Phone. USB drivers of device should be installed on your computer, you can download USB drivers for your Samsung Galaxy Nexus GSM and CDMA variant from here , the latest version of JAVA should be installed on your computer, you can download  JAVA from here. On your Android device turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Before you start first charge the battery of your smartphone and make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the CASUAL root tool to your PC.

Step #2: Run the downloaded root file.

Step #3: Plug the smartphone to PC using USB cable.

Step #4: On the root tool window, you’ll see a drop down menu at bottom. From that menu, select whatever you want, you’ll see four options:

  • Galaxy Nexus Root version 4.0.1 or 4.0.2
  • Install BusyBox
  • Install Galaxy Nexus GSM CWM Recovery
  • Install Galaxy Nexus CDMA CWM Recovery

Step #5: Now simply click on button labeled “Do it”.
