Root and Install ClockworkMod recovery on Galaxy S On XXJW4 Firmware

A few days ago Samsung released XXJW4 with TouchWiz 4 for Samsung Galaxy S, it’s not Ice Cream Sandwich update, which means if you want to taste Ice Cream Sandwich, you have to install ICS-based custom ROMs on your Galaxy S. As you know well that before you install any custom ROM first you’ll need root and install any custom recovery on your device.

Here’s guide to root your Galaxy S running XXJW4 firmware and install ClockworkMod recovery, thanks to XDA developer “Chainfire”. Before you start first note that you’ll need a Windows PC, disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure will wipe all data, you can use file expert app to backup. Samsung USB drivers should be installed on PC, you can download 32-bit Windows drivers from here and for 64-bit Windows from here.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download CF-Root tool and Odin3 v1.7 to your PC.

Step #2: Now unzip root file into a single folder, you’ll get CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar.

Step #3: Now turn  the Samsung Galaxy S off completely and reboot into download mode, by pressing the Volume down key, Home button, and Power button simultaneously until the screen lights up, at which point you may release the buttons.

Step #4: On your PC, double-click on the Odin3 executable file.

Step #5: Plug the device to PC, Odin3 will detect the device with a message “Added”, however if Odin don’t detect, you’ve haven’t installed drivers properly.

Step #6: Click the PDA button in Odin3 and select CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar. After that click the Start button in Odin3 to start installing the firmware.Once the installation is done, your device will automatically reboot, and Odin3 will display a PASS message on Odin3 window.

That’s it you’ve now rooted Galaxy S with ClockworkMod recovery installed.
