Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on T-Mobile Galaxy S2 Running UVLE1 Android 4.0 ICS Firmware

Samsung has rolled out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 but it would void the root access on the device, but a rooting tool is now available to root the device on Ice Cream Sandwich, thanks to XDA developer member asting. It’ll also install ClockworkMod recovery on device that will allow you to install custom ROMs, Mods, tweaks, wipe the device, make the backup of existing ROM. This Root tool is for T Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 Running UVLE1 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.

Follow the below guide to root the device but first make sure that USB drivers are installed on PC, if you haven’t installed the drivers on PC, download drivers from here. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Step #1: Download the following files: Rooting PackageClockworkMod Touch RecoveryOdin3 1.83

Step #2: Transfer the downloaded file into SD card of your device.

Step #3: Run the downloaded Odin3 1.83.exe file

Step #4: Turn the device off and reboot into download mode by holding down volume up and volume down buttons while plugging the device to PC using USB cable, when Download Screen appear on device, leave the buttons.

Step #5: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will turn yellow and a message saying ADDED will appear.

Step #6: Click on PDA Button and locate recovery.tar.md5 that you’ve downloaded in first step.

Step #7: Don’t make any change in Odin and click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS. (Note: If Odin gets stuck or you get message saying fail, disconnect the device from PC, remove battery from the device, then re insert battery again, and follow the guide again from step 3).

Step #8: Once the installation is done saying message PASS, unplug the device from PC.

Step #9: Once again turn the device off and reboot by holding down volume up, volume down and power button in recovery mode.

Step #10: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important goes wrong, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #11: In recovery mode, Select “Install Zip from SD Card” then “Choose Zip from SD Card” and locate the downloaded rooting zip file that you’ve transferred in above step and confirm installation. Wait till installation complete.

Step #12: Once the installation is completed, select “Go Back” after that select “Reboot System Now.”

That’s it, you’ve flashed the update, enjoy the Ice Cream Sandwich on your device and comment below for queries.

      this will root the phone (T-Mobile Galaxy S2) running Ice Cream Sandwich UVLE1 firmware….check device detail from Setting>About Phone………..

    my android version is 4.0.0 and banbase version is t989UVLI4 i don’t know if my cel have ice cream samdwich, so I want to install this ISC, because I want to install the galaxy s s3-voice in my galaxy s2 and let me know how I can do it if you can help me please I would really appreciate it
