Root And Install ClockworkMod Recovery On Your Galaxy  Nexus CDMA Running Android 4.0.4 ICS [How-To]

Have you Galaxy Nexus? Well! Lovable news for you, Samsung has rolled out official update, the Galaxy Nexus also gets the it latest (leaked but official) Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update, as you know well that when any new update release, older method of rooting become obsolete, and updating the device to Android 4.0.4 ICS will void its root. Thanks to XDA developer adrynalyne authored, who made it possible again. See below guide to root and install ClockworkMod recovery on your Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Please keep in mind that rooting will void the warranty of your device, if you are interested, please note that the below procedure is for Verizon Galaxy Nexus (CDMA variant) running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, ADB and fastboot should be installed on your PC, its battery should be charged, and disable all antivirus and other tools that can disturb the procedure. Enable USB debugging mode by going to “Settings > Applications > Development”. Make sure that there is a check mark beside USB Debugging.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Instructions

Step #1: Download the su ZIP package (su.zip) from here or here and ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery 5.5.0.4 image for the Galaxy Nexus CDMA from here or here to your PC. Copy the CWM image file into the same folder where adb.exe and fastboot.exe are located on your computer.

Step #2: Connect the device with PC using USB cable and copy su.zip into the root of your phone’s SD card..

Step #3: Open command prompt (DOS) on PC issue the following commands:

  • adb reboot bootloader
  • fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img

Step #4: With phone’s Volume keys, select the option “Recovery Mode” and press the Power button to confirm the selection. This should boot your device to ClockworkMod Recovery.

Step #5: In  ClockworkMod Recovery,  select “install zip from sd card”, then select “choose zip from sd card”. Browse the contents of your SD card and select the file named “su.zip” to manually flash the su binaries to your Galaxy Nexus. Wait for the installation process to finish.

Step #6: Select “++++Go Back++++”, then select “reboot system now” to reboot your phone. Use Superuser app app to check root access. That’s it enjoy!
