Root Galaxy Note 2 on XXALJ1 Android 4.1.1 Official Firmware
Samsung has just rolled out the XXALJ1 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and those of you have upgraded their Galaxy Note 2 to XXALJ1 firmware and now looking for a root, the root is here, the below guide will walk you through how to root Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on XXALJ1 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean firmware and install ClockworkMod Recovery on it.
Before rooting make sure you’re using the Windows PC, USB Galaxy Note 2 drivers should be installed on your PC too, you can download drivers for direct installation, download the 32 bit (x86) Windows drivers for Galaxy Note 2 from here and 64-bit (x64) Windows from here. Disable all system tools such as Samsung KIES, antivirus, firewall program, please make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps, and turn the USB Debugging on, to do so just tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development.

Instructions
Step #1: Download the Rooting Package (cwm6-root-note2.tar) for your Galaxy Note 2 to your PC.
Step #2: Download the Odin3 v3.04 (Odin3_v3.04.zip) to your PC.
Step #3: Unzip the downloaded Odin3_3.04.zip file into a folder.
Step #4: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above file and run Odin3 v3.04.exe.
Step #5: Turn your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 off.
Step #6: Reboot the device into download mode, to do reboot device by holding down volume down, home and power buttons, when a warning screen appear, leave these buttons and press the volume up button and it will take you to download mode.
Step #7: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, ID:COM will change the color and a message saying ADDED will appear. (Note: If Odin doesn’t detect the device, make sure that USB drivers are properly installed on your computer).
Step #8: Click on PDA Button and locate cwm6-root-note2.tar that you downloaded in first step (Note: Don’t make any change, just make sure that re-partition is unchecked).
Step #9: Click on Start button to start installation, once the installation done, your device will reboot itself and you’ll see message saying PASS (Note: If Odin refuse to install the update and show message FAIL, or get stuck, close the Odin and unplug device, then pull out battery from the device for a few seconds. Then put the battery back to the device and reboot into download mode. Then install the firmware again.
Step #10: That’s it, unplug the phone from PC.
