Root Galaxy S2 Running Android 4.0.3 ICS XWLPD Firmware

For those of you who have upgraded their Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 with the latest Samsung Android 4.0.3 ice Cream Sandwich firmware XWLPD, here’s guide to root and install ClockworkMod recovery, this recovery allows you to make a backup of existing ROM, sometime when you install a custom ROM on your device but after installation if anything not work which expect from the ROM, you can easily revert back to your current state with backup of ROM.

ClockworkMod recovery also allows you to custom ROMs, wipe the device and install hacks. Follow below guide but to root Galaxy S2 and install ClockworkMod recovery but first keep in mind that it’s for Samsung Galaxy S2 model number GT-I9100 running XWLPD firmware, so don’t try it any other model or firmware, if you want to check the device detail, on your device go to menu, then tap on setting and then tap on About Phone, there you’ll get complete information about your phone.

USB drivers must be installed on your PC, you can download the 32 bit (x86) Windows from here and 64-bit (x64) Windows from here, but make a backup of your device data such as SMS, internet setting, contacts music files etc because the below procedure may wipe data, you can sync your contacts with Gmail account and for messages use SMS apps, lastly use file expert app to backup apps.

Instructions 

Step #1: Download the CF-Root kernel and Odin 1.85 to computer and unzip it into a single folder, you’ll get file CF-Root-SGS2_XX_NEE_LPD-v5.4-CWM5.tar that will be used in step 6, please don’t the tar file.

Step #2: Open the folder where you’ve unzipped above files.

Step #3: Double click on Odin to run it.

Step #4: Turn the device off.

Step #5: Reboot the device into download mode by pressing and holding down the Volume Down, Home, and Power keys until a sign appears on the screen.

Step #6: Once you’re in download mode plug the device to PC using USB cable. Odin will detect the device, a box in Odin ID:COM will turn yellow and you’ll also get a message saying ADDED in Odin.

Step #7: Click on PDA Button and locate CF-Root-SGS2_XX_NEE_LPD-v5.4-CWM5.tar from the folder you got in first step.

Step #8: Don’t make any changes in Odin.

Step #9: Click on Start button to root the device, once the process is completed, your device will reboot automatically, a message saying PASS will appear in Odin.

Step #10: Unplug the device from PC.

That’s it, you’ve now rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 running XWLPD firmware with ClockworkMod recovery installed. If you face any problem following the above guide do let us know in below comments.

    I tried your steps and my phone is stuck on the boot screen with the yellow triangle, won’t boot. Please help. Phone can still get into download mode.

      Dear..turn off phone, and reboot the device into recovery mode by holding down volume up, home and power buttons. In recovery mode, perform wipe, simply select the wipe data/factory reset, and confirm on the next screen. Then go back and reboot the device by selecting Reboot System Now”, device will reboot in normal mode…
